I have known George Almasi for somewhere around 35 years. Though never close friends, I have shared close friends and a love of sports throughout this time span. Encouraged by George, I have donated pictures and articles of local high school sports teams in action with the Times Record. George always treated me with the respect and honesty that any human being deserves.
I have not spoken to him since his departure from the Times Record so I know nothing of the circumstances of his leaving, other than it was abrupt. Assuming that there was no illegal or criminal activity involved (and I’m 99.9 percent sure there wasn’t), I think it is a shame that the Times Record is so trite that it would not honor this reporter who spent close to 40 years covering local sports for the communities the Times Record serves. It is time to put aside any personal animosity and disagreements that either party may harbor and pay tribute to this man. It is the right thing to do and now is the time to do it.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
