SACO — Saco Spirit’s annual Pumpkin Harvest Festival is bringing a cornucopia of family-friendly fun to the downtown Saturday.

The festival runs from 12:30-4:30 p.m. Saturday. Main Street will be closed to traffic on Saturday beginning at 11:30 a.m., said Saco Spirit Executive Director Nadeen DeSilva. There is no rain date.

Children are welcome to attend in costume, but it’s not required.

“It’s really a jam-packed afternoon with lots of things for kids to do,” she said.

Many of the local businesses are participating in the event this year, she said, with sales and samples ”“ and one business said they will give out candy to children with costumes.

There will be a free inflatable obstacle course, free face painting, and free games for children. Games will be staffed by volunteers from Saco Spirit, Thornton Academy and University of New England, as well as representatives from local businesses.

“You’ll see a lot of businesses out on the street playing games with kids,” said DeSilva.

Don Lauzier, community relations director for Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution, said in an email the bank is hosting “Pumpkin Pitch,” a bean bag toss game, and will also be giving out free popcorn.

“We participate because this is one of the biggest events of the year for Saco Spirit and the community, and as the local community bank, it’s important for us to participate, support Saco Spirit, and help bring people together to enjoy a day of fun and games for the entire family, especially the children,” said Lauzier.

Saturday’s events will also include music, a dance performance and a drum circle, said DeSilva.
