A Berwick man who was struck Saturday night by a metal beam that weighed more than a ton is expected to survive his injuries, police said.
Sgt. Jeffrey Pilkington of the Berwick Police Department said the victim’s injuries did not appear to be life-threatening. The 57-year-old man was transported by ambulance to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, New Hampshire, following the accident. His name was not released.
Pilkington said the metal beam, which weighed an estimated 2,000 to 3,000 pounds, was supported by two wooden beams when it rolled off and hit the man, who was operating a tractor. The impact pinned him in the tractor. Extrication equipment was used to remove the beam.
The accident took place around 6 p.m. at a home under construction at 153 Route 236 in Berwick.
