BRUNSWICK — Dave Caputi, Bowdoin’s head football coach, announced he will step down at the end of this season, his 15th with the Polar Bears.
Caputi, with a record of 35-81, including a 2-2 record this season, will coach his last game for Bowdoin on Nov. 8 when the Polar Bears play their season finale at Colby.
Bowdoin hosts Trinity on Saturday, travels to Wesleyan on Oct. 25 and plays its last home game on Nov. 1 against Bates.
A nationwide search for a replacement will be conducted after the season.
GEORGIA: Running back Todd Gurley and the 10th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs are in limbo while the school investigates whether he violated NCAA rules by allegedly receiving improper benefits for signing autographs.
Gurley was suspended last week, less than 48 hours before his team took on Missouri, but the coaching staff is making sure he gets enough work in practice in case he is cleared to play in Saturday’s game at Arkansas.

SMCC 2, UNITY COLLEGE 1: Steve Rwendye scored unassisted on a breakaway down the right side in the 85th minute as the Seawolves defeated the Rams in a quarterfinal of the Yankee Small College Conference playoffs at South Portland.
Rwendeye also had a first-half goal off an assist by Sean Jackson.
Spencer Hoyt made 10 saves in the victory.
SMCC (6-4-3, 4-2-2) next faces New Hampshire Technical Institute on Oct. 18.
UNE 2, SOUTHERN MAINE 1: Sean Goodrich took a short pass from Tyler Garnick and knocked a hard, high shot to the upper right corner in the second overtime to lead the Nor’easters (8-3-2) past the Huskies (2-11-2) in a nonconference match at Biddeford.
USM scored first on a goal by Tyler Rand, assisted by Colin Samuell. Garnick answered for UNE in the 51st minute, assisted by Matthew Christie.
Elijah Leverett stopped 11 of the 13 shots he faced for Southern Maine, while Nate Diffin made four saves for UNE.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
UNE 4, SOUTHERN MAINE 1: Margaret Palmer scored a pair of first-half goals as the Nor’easters cruised past the Huskies in a nonconference match at Biddeford.
UNE also got goals from Lindsey Monaco and Becca Murphy.
Dayna Staffiere scored for USM in the 63rd minute with her first goal of the season.
The Nor’easters move to 9-2-1 with the win, while the Huskies fall to 2-11-1.
