Friday, Oct. 17: The first annual Volleyball Challenge Night takes place 5:30-9 p.m. at the Windham High School gym. Open to public. Donations appreciated at door. Saturday, Oct. 18: The Kiwanis Club of Standish will be hosting a Halloween Fundraiser Bus Trip departing the Clubhouse at 8:30 a.m., returning from Salem, Mass. at 5 p.m. $40 per person. Oct. 18: The Windham Lions Club is sponsoring a craft/vendor fair from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the North Windham Union Church on Rt. 302, which is located across from the Windham Fire Station. Many items will be available such as pottery, stained glass, jewelry, throw pillow covers, hand stamped cards, quilts, knit items, Scentsy, Thirty-One gifts and many other craft items. A luncheon will be served from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. There will also be a bake sale and raffles galore! Admission is free-donations of non-perishable food items for the Windham Food Pantry will also be greatly accepted and appreciated. All proceeds from the fair benefit the Windham Lions Club Community Charities.

Oct. 18: The First Congregational Christian Church in New Gloucester is hosting a community contra dance from 6:30-9:30 p.m. in the Vestry Community Room at 19 Gloucester Hill Road. The event features live music with caller Kathryn Larson. All are welcome, with or without a partner. All dances are taught, no experience necessary. Admission is $8 adult, and $20 per family. Oct. 20: Rabies Clinic at Standish Municipal Building, 175 Northeast Road, 5-6 p.m. Price is $10 per pet. Cash only, no checks. Dogs on leashes and cats in cages. Bring previous rabies certificate. Vaccine administered by Standish Veterinary. You may license your dog at the same time. Any questions, contact Animal Control Officer Jack Freitas at 642-4343.

Saturday, Oct. 25: From 12-4 p.m. at the Raymond Village Community Church located at 27 Main Street in Raymond, the Jordan Small Middle School eighth-grade class and the Raymond Village Commuinity Church present the second annual “Octoberfest,” a fundraiser for the eighth-grade class trip. Activities for children of all ages include but are not limited to, face painting, doughnuts on a string, tattoos, chuck an apple, pie eating context, coloring contest, sack races, guessing jars, pumpkin relays, bouncy house. At 3 p.m., there will be a costume parade down Main Street in Raymond. Hamburgers, hot dogs, popcorn, cotton candy and drinks for sale. Suggested admission price $5, but any donation is appreciated. Saturday, Nov. 8: The Village Square Fair takes place 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Standish Congregational Church on Oak Hill Road. It will feature fabulous apple fritters, cookie walk, garden delights, lots of crafts, bargain basement, silent auction, jewelry and books. Lunch of homemade chowders, stews and chili is from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
