SCARBOROUGH — Donald M. Witham, 91, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

Donald was born in Scarborough, the son of Perley and Ruth Scamman Witham, on March 17, 1923.

Donald attended Scarborough schools and left his senior year to join the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy, he completed his GED. He served from 1942-45 as an armed guard on merchant ships all over the world.

He worked for the Maine Central Rail Road in Portland for a number of years. In 1954, he went to work for L. C. Andrews Lumber Company, retiring as manager. Donald was also a volunteer firefighter for the Scarborough Fire Department for more than 50 years.

Donald was preceded in death by: his wife of 64 years, Jean Mills Witham, in January of 2011.

He is survived by: his three daughters, Sherry Witham Mitchell and her husband Harold of Alburgh, Vermont, Alison Witham Czarnecki and her husband Steve of Sugar Hill, New Hampshire, and Pamela Witham Consiglio and her husband Anthony of Lady Lake, Florida; five grandchildren, Erin Mitchell, Allison Mitchell and her husband Justin Smith, Amanda Mitchell and her husband Nathan Robinson, Michael Witham and Erin Consiglio; and three great-grandchildren, Virginia Smith, Audrey Smith and Brooklyn Robinson.

A graveside service will be held in the spring of 2015 at Dunstan Cemetery in Scarborough. Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral and Cremation Services, 365 Main St., Saco, is in charge of the arrangements.
