Gov. LePage hasn’t cut taxes for the average middle-income taxpayer. He’s increased the property-tax burden for the elderly, poor and middle-income taxpayer by decreasing revenue sharing to towns and cities.
We live in Augusta. The four years before LePage was elected governor, our taxes went up 1.2 percent; during his first four years in office, our taxes have gone up 14.9 percent. If he’s given four more years, many of the elderly living on fixed incomes will be forced out of their homes.
We don’t need our governor to continue spending our hard-earned tax dollars on corporate welfare and giving income tax breaks only to the rich!
Only one candidate, independent Eliot Cutler, has a plan to reduce the property taxes for towns and cities. That is why we’re voting for Eliot Cutler. More Mainers are independent than belong to either party, and together we can make a difference.
