BOSTON — The people of Boston will get their chance to pay final respects to Mayor Tom Menino.

Menino is scheduled to lie in state at Faneuil Hall on Sunday.

The event that starts at 10 a.m. is open to the public.

A private funeral Mass for family and friends is scheduled for Monday at Most Precious Blood Parish in Hyde Park, Menino’s home neighborhood.

Menino died Thursday at age 71.

He served more than 20 years as mayor, the longest in city history.

He was diagnosed with advanced cancer in February, shortly after leaving office, and announced Oct. 23 he was suspending treatment and a book tour so he could spend more time with family and friends.

Menino is survived by his wife, Angela, two children and six grandchildren.
