Maine Red Claws draft six, then make two trades
The Maine Red Claws selected six players, then traded two of them, in the NBA Development League draft on Saturday.
Maine selected center Asauhn Dixon-Tatum, forward Omari Johnson, guard David Stockton, guard Xavier Mumford, guard Luke Loucks and guard Joshua Freelove.
Stockton was then traded to Reno for Raymond Cowels and a 2015 second-round draft pick, while Mumford went to Bakersfield for Jake O’Brien and John Petrucelli.
SOCCER
MLS: Charlie Davies scored twice to lead the New England Revolution over the Columbus Crew 4-2 at Columbus, Ohio, in the first leg of Major League Soccer’s Eastern Conference semifinals.
The second leg of the total-goals series is Nov. 9 at New England. The winner plays New York or D.C. United for a spot in the MLS Cup.
HOCKEY
AHL: The Portland Pirates reassigned forward Greg Carey to Gwinnett of the ECHL.
Carey had one goal and one assist in 13 games for the Pirates.
TENNIS
PARIS MASTERS: Defending champion Novak Djokovic easily defeated Kei Nishikori 6-2, 6-3 to set up a final in France against big-serving Milos Raonic.
Raonic followed up his win over Roger Federer with a 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 victory over former champion Tomas Berdych.
TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS: Flavia Pennetta of Italy beat Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain 6-4, 6-2 to set up a final against Andrea Petkovic of Germany at Sofia, Bulgaria. Earlier, Petkovic defeated Spain’s Garbine Muguruza 6-1, 6-4.
DAVIS CUP: Despite poor results at the Paris Masters, France captain Arnaud Clement is sticking with his regular players for the Davis Cup final against Switzerland.
Clement has picked four players – Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Richard Gasquet, Gael Monfils and Gilles Simon.
GOLF
LPGA: Inbee Park shot a 3-under 69 in windy conditions in the Taiwan Championship to increase her lead to four strokes.
Playing her first event since regaining the No. 1 spot in the world from Stacy Lewis on Monday, the South Korean newlywed fought winds gusting to 30 mph to record a 21-under 195.
The No. 2 Lewis had a 64 to move into a tie for second with China’s Shanshan Feng.
Michelle Wie had a 72 to drop into a tie for 27th.
PGA: Defending champion Ryan Moore is tied for the lead with Kevin Na after both shot rounds of 5-under 67 in the third round of the CIMB Classic at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
CHAMPIONS TOUR: France’s Alexander Levy birdied his opening three holes and kept right on going to a 9-under 63 and a four-shot lead in the BMW Masters at Shanghai.
Jamie Donaldson shot a 62 and barely made up any ground, ending four back.
RUGBY
NEW ZEALAND: New Zealand’s All Blacks made their USA rivals mostly blue Saturday, turning what was billed as a rugby exhibition into a clinic on their way to a 74-6 win at Chicago.
Playing with only a handful of regulars, the defending World Cup champions went ahead three minutes in and raced to a 43-6 halftime lead.
FIGURE SKATING
SKATE CANADA INTERNATIONAL: Japan’s Takahito Mura won the men’s title at Kelowna, British Columbia, landing two quadruple jumps and finishing with 255.81 points.
