Emera Maine utility crews are trying to restore power to more than 2,000 customers left in the dark due to wintery weather conditions and related crashes.

An Emera spokesman says most of the outages are along the Maine coast but customers inland have been affected as well. He attributes the outages to high winds, sleet and heavy wet snow across the region.

Some of the outages occurred when cars careened into utility poles due to slippery driving conditions.

Emera spokes Bob Potts said the utility company placed extra crews on standby to cope with anticipated weather-related outages. He says most customers should see power restored by noon Sunday.
