PORTLAND — Former state representative John Eder won his bid for the open at-large seat on the city’s School Board. Eder defeated his opponent Gene Landry 9,412 to 8,482 on Tuesday for the three year term. Absentee ballots had not been counted.

Eder, 45, served two terms in the state House of Representatives, from 2002 until his 2006 defeat. He ran unsuccessfully for mayor in 2011.

Landry, 56, ran unsuccessfully for School Board in 2013. He is an independent producer and the owner of Persistence Media.

The seat has been vacant since January, when Elizabeth Brooks stepped down. At the time, the board decided not to hold a special election to fill the seat.
