Maine State Police say two women sought in connection with the stabbing of a third woman in China have been arrested on unrelated charges.

Carissa Butkewicz, 23, and Tiffany Glidden, 20, both of Waterville, were taken to the Kennebec County Jail in Augusta.

Glidden turned herself in Wednesday evening, and Butkewicz was arrested Thursday.

The victim in Tuesday’s stabbing, 24-year-old Katheryn Hopkins, also of Waterville, continues to improve at MaineGeneral Hospital in Augusta, according to a news release by Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Police didn’t specify the charges against Glidden. Butkewicz was charged with a probation violation.

Troopers continue to investigate the stabbing, which took place on a fire road off Neck Road.
