A Northwood, New Hampshire, man pleaded guilty Friday in U.S. District Court in Bangor to a charge of interstate travel to have sex with a minor.

Chad Amodio, 42, faces up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. A sentencing date wasn’t set.

According to U.S. Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II, authorities were contacted in March after Amodio began having inappropriate conversations on a chat website with a 13-year-old girl. A police undercover officer took control of the girl’s account and Amodio made plans to travel to Maine to have sex with the girl.

Amodio was arrested when he arrived at the address provided by the undercover officer.

The investigation was conducted by Bangor police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office and the Maine State Police.
