When the American people learned that Barack Obama had lied to them about the Affordable Care Act (“If you like your health insurance plan, you can keep it”), they began to question Obama’s ability to lead this country.

For better or for worse, Americans no longer trusted the president on issues such as immigration, the crisis in Ukraine, combating ISIS, dealing with the Ebola epidemic and so forth. And, in the last two years, Obama stopped communicating with the American people, and instead began lecturing us as if we were errant schoolchildren.

So it’s no surprise that the midterm elections became a referendum on Obama and that the Democrats took the shellacking that they deserved. The Republicans should also take a lesson from this – if you lose the nation’s trust, you will lose elections.
