The Coast Guard towed a lobster boat to Union Wharf in Portland on Monday after the vessel caught fire near Cushing Island in Casco Bay and became disabled.
The captain of the 30-foot Hard Bottom sent out a distress call around 12:20 p.m. Monday notifying authorities that his boat was on fire, the Coast Guard said in a press release.
The captain of the vessel, whose name was not released, was able to bring the engine room fire under control by the time two Coast Guard boats arrived. However, the fire disabled his boat, which had to be towed to shore.
The captain, who was the only person on board the lobster boat, was not injured.
