Much is being made of Maine being “47th” or “49th” in one economic category or another, everyone blaming Republican Gov. Paul LePage for our current status.

Has Maine ever topped the list of economic growth in the U.S., or even the Northeast? As far back as the 1970s Maine’s median income was $4,500. Doesn’t sound like things have changed all that much.

Maybe there’s a reason we call ourselves “Vacationland” and not “Opportunity Land.”
