A Winthrop man is in custody Sunday following a standoff with Winthrop Police Saturday night.

Joseph Finch, 44, was charged with felony domestic violence terrorizing following the incident at a North Wayne Road home shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday.

Police received information from a family member that Finch and a woman he lived with had argued and Finch had threatened the woman with a handgun, Winthrop Police said.

The Maine State Police Tactical and Negotiation Team was called in. A negotiator communicated with Finch by loudspeaker and phone. Finch was apprehended by police after he exited the house and then tried to re-enter it.

Finch is being held at Kennebec County Jail pending arraignment.

A section of North Wayne Road was shut down for more than four hours during the incident.
