A Chesterville man was held on $7,000 bail at the Franklin County jail on Monday after police say he threatened his former girlfriend with an assault rifle in front of their two children.

Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols said Kristopher Allen, 26, was arrested Saturday and charged with class C domestic violence terrorizing and endangering the welfare of a child.

Nichols said that at around 11 a.m. the woman went to Allen’s parents home on Chesterville Hill Road, where he also lives, to pick up their two children who had been with Allen. Nichols said the woman was also going to give court paperwork to Allen. It wasn’t clear what the relationship was between Allen and the woman, but they share the children.

After she gave him the paperwork, Nichols said Allen “became upset and became verbally abusive to her.”

Nichols said Allen’s girlfriend, who was present at the time of the exchange, helped the woman bring her two children to the car to leave the area.

“He came up behind her with an assault rifle pointed at the ground,” said Nichols. He said the woman drove away and called police.

Deputy Sheriff Colt Bernhart, Cpl. Chris Case and Cpl. Nate Bean of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department went with Wilton Police Officer Derek Daley to look for Allen at his girlfriend’s home on Main Street in Wilton.

Nichols said they found Allen, interviewed him and Bernhart arrested him without incident on the charges.
