Recount results in Freeport confirm that newcomer William Rixon successfully defeated 12-year town councilor Richard DeGrandpre, the town said Monday.

Rixon’s margin of victory decreased by a single vote, to 2,076 for Rixon to 2,071 for DeGrandpre.

There were no disputed ballots.

Rixon taught physics and earth science at Greely High School for 28 years.

DeGrandpre is the owner of R&D Automotive in Freeport, and was also a member of the Freeport Withdrawal Committee, which negotiated a proposed agreement to leave Regional School Unit 5. Voters on Nov. 4 rejected the withdrawal measure.
