JEFFERSON, Ohio — Soap opera actor Freddie Smith has been charged with felony vehicular assault and misdemeanor driving under the influence after a single-vehicle crash that injured his girlfriend in northeast Ohio.
The 26-year-old “Days of Our Lives” actor lost control of his car on a curve in Ashtabula County on Oct. 7 and ended up in a culvert, causing his car to flip over.

Authorities say Smith was legally drunk at the time of the accident, with a blood-alcohol level of 0.093 percent. The legal limit in Ohio is 0.08 percent.
Actress Alyssa Tabit, 27, was seriously hurt in the crash but is recovering.
