I’m pleased that the bear referendum failed. However, the closeness of the vote tells me that many voters have been raised and conditioned by what I call the “Disney Factor.” No animal suffers or dies. A whole generation seems to believe this fairy tale.

Next time any of the “Disney generation” goes to a supermarket, they need to understand that an animal had to die to give them their hamburger, fish chowder or Thanksgiving turkey. Life was just as precious to that steer, fish or turkey as it is to them!

Wildlife must to be managed if it is to survive. Our wildlife biologists certainly understand management of Maine’s wildlife better than some extremists from Washington.
