GORHAM — The University of Southern Maine scored the first 10 points and went on to a 69-51 victory against the University of New England in a nonconference men’s basketball game Wednesday night at Hill Gymnasium.

Sean Caddigan had 11 points, and Jacob Littlefield, Zach Leal and Aaron Toman each finished with 10 for the Huskies (1-2), who closed the first half with an 11-1 run for a 34-15 lead. Leal also finished with 10 rebounds for the Huskies.

Drew Coveney had 11 points for the Nor’easters (1-2).

SOUTHERN MAINE CC 97, UNITY 53: Atencio Martin scored 18 points with nine rebounds to lead the Seawolves (4-1) over the Rams (1-4) at Unity.

Kevin Fabian and Jack Tolan each had 11 points for the Seawolves.

Eddie Kopacz scored 18 points for Unity.

(2) ARIZONA 71, CAL-IRVINE 54: Rondae Hollis-Jefferson scored 19 points and Arizona (3-0) used a stifling defense in a decisive second-half run to beat Cal-Irvine (2-1) at Tucson, Arizona.

(3) WISCONSIN 84, WISCONSIN-GREEN BAY 60: Nigel Hayes scored a career-high 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to help Wisconsin (3-0)beat Wisconsin-Green Bay (1-1) at Madison, Wisconsin.

CREIGHTON 65, (18) OKLAHOMA 63: Zach Hanson caught Devin Brooks’ air ball along the baseline and put it in the basket for the go-ahead points in the last minute, and Creighton (3-0) came back from an 18-point deficit to upset Oklahoma (1-1) at Omaha, Neb.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

BOWDOIN 72, ENDICOTT 46: Lauren Petit scored 16 points, and Shannon Brady and Sara Binkhorst each had 15 for the Polar Bears (2-1) against the Gulls (1-2) at Beverly, Massachusetts.

After the Gulls got within 35-33 with 16:17 left, Bowdoin scored seven straight points, then outscored Endicott 23-12 over the next 7:26 for a 65-45 lead.

Binkhorst also had 10 rebounds and four assists, both team highs.

MASSACHUSETTS 68, MAINE 60: Kim Pierre-Louis scored 19 points to lead the Minutemen (1-2) over the Black Bears (1-1) at Amherst, Massachusetts

UMass took a 14-13 lead on a layup by Rashida Timbilla with 13:13 left in the first half and never trailed.

Mikaela Gustafsson and Sigi Koizar each had 12 points for Maine.

SOUTHERN MAINE CC 93, UNITY 51: Amira Jones scored 19 points and Jaimi Poland chipped in 14 as the Seawolves (4-3) handled the Rams (1-4) at Unity.

Kendra Kagiliery made 4 of 5 3-pointers for 12 points and Tiana Burton finished with 11 points for the Seawolves.

Sierra Marchacos had 18 points to pace the Rams.

(3) NOTRE DAME 71, (15) MICHIGAN STATE 63: Jewell Loyd finished with 28 points and 11 rebounds to lead Notre Dame (2-0) to a victory over Michigan State (1-1) at East Lansing, Michigan.
