AUBURN — An Auburn man faces a year behind bars after pleading no contest to charges that he used a baseball bat to severely beat a man he thought was flirting with his girlfriend.
The Sun Journal reports that under an agreement with prosecutors, by pleading no contest to aggravated assault, 21-year-old Nathan Evans agreed to serve one year of a five-year sentence with the remainder suspended.
Sentencing is scheduled for January.
Prosecutors say Evans and another man went to the victim’s home last November to confront the victim, who had been calling and texting Evans’ girlfriend.
Police found the victim lying in “a large pool of blood” on the kitchen floor. He suffered a fractured skull and jaw, lost four teeth, and received several stitches to his head and hand.
