‘Art is Community V’ exhibit to open

The Saco River Art League sponsors “Art is Community V” that opens with a reception with the artists 5-8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 21, at Saco River Theater, 29 Salmon Falls Road in Buxton.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m., on Saturday, Nov. 22, and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 23. Art remains on view through Dec. 13 – Saturdays, 3-7:30 p.m., or by appointment.

This popular, annual, juried show and sale of regional art and fine crafts, includes paintings, sculptures and child-friendly interactive art-making for visitors during the opening weekend. Admission is free. Donations appreciated but not required.

‘Peabody Pew’ rehearsals under way

The cast for this year’s production of “The Old Peabody Pew” is rehearsing for this year’s 151st production of the holiday classic written by Kate Douglas Wiggin.

The two-act romantic comedy will be on stage on Sunday, Dec. 7, at the historic Tory Hill Meetinghouse at the intersection of routes 202 and 112 in Buxton.

Jane McCarthy will direct this year’s performance. The Dorcas Society of Hollis and Buxton, a charitable organization founded by Wiggin in 1897, sponsors the show, which had been performed twice annually in earlier times.

Garden club sets holiday fest

Buxton Garden Club will present the Festival of Trees that opens on Monday, Dec. 8, and continues through Saturday, Dec. 13, at Bar Mills Community Church, 13 Hermit Thrush Road, Buxton.

Breakfast among the trees, from 8-9 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 8, costs $7. A luncheon to benefit the town’s “Keep the Heat On” is set for 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 9. For more information or to place an order to eat in or take out, scall Judy at 929-5555.

Decorating cookies with Mrs. Claus is a free highlight on Wednesday, Dec. 10, for scouting groups. For more information, call Sharon at 929-8283.

Other free feature events include floral arrangements by Maine Street Florist at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11; community carol sing, 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 12; and “Fabulous Frozen Festival” at noon on Saturday, Dec. 13.
