SACRED HEART 59, MAINE 58: Hannah Kimmel’s layup gave Sacred Heart (3-0) a one-point edge with five seconds left to play in Orono, and Sigi Koizar’s driving attempt in the final seconds rimmed out as the Black Bears (1-3) lost to the Pioneers at Orono.

Kimmel finished with 28 points. Anna Heise netted 17 points for Maine. Lauren Bodine hit four 3-pointers for 12 points, and Koizar finished with 11.

COLBY 54, WELLESLEY 53: Caitlyn Nolan scored 26 points and the Mules (4-0) held off a rally by the Blue (2-3) on the second day of the Colby Classic in Waterville.

Colby led by 14 with 13 minutes to play, but Wellesley chipped away, trimming the deficit to 52-49 with 1:58 remaining. A half-court shot hit the back of the rim at the buzzer.

(1) UCONN 96, CREIGHTON 60: Breanna Stewart scored 25 points as the host Huskies (2-1) bounced back from their first loss in 48 games.

(2) SOUTH CAROLINA 89, SAN DIEGO STATE 38: Tiffany Mitchell made all six of her 3-pointers and scored 20 points as South Carolina auditioned for the top spot in the country with an impressive win at home.

(3) NOTRE DAME 104, HOLY CROSS 29: Brianna Turner had 19 points and seven rebounds for the host Irish in the first round of the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame Challenge at South Bend, Indiana.

AMHERST 73, BARUCH 63: The Jeffs set an NCAA record with their 100th straight home win, breaking a mark set by Connecticut.

Amherst’s streak started with a one-point win over Colby on Jan. 31, 2009.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

(11) WICHITA STATE 105, NEWMAN 57: Ron Baker scored 16 of his 18 points in the first half, leading the host Shockers (3-0) past Division II Newman.

(19) OKLAHOMA 90, NORTHWESTERN STATE 68: Isaiah Cousins scored 20 points to help host the Sooners (2-1) rebound from their first loss of the season.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

PROVIDENCE 2, MAINE 1: Beth Hanrahan fired home a short-handed goal 4:43 into overtime to lift the Friars (2-11-3, 2-4-1 Hockey East) over the Black Bears (5-8-2, 4-2-1) in Orono.

Hanrahan had given the Friars a 1-0 lead with 7:27 left in regulation. Maine evened the scored when Morgan Sakundiak tipped home a rebound of Jillian Langtry’s shot with 4:23 left in the third period.

Maine goalie Meghann Treacy made 31 saves.
