SACO — Richard R. Johnson Sr., 69, of Saco, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2014 as a result of a truck accident in Arundel.

He was born May 17, 1945 in Biddeford, a son of Samuel and Antoinette (Brousseau) Johnson, and was educated here, graduating from Biddeford High School in the Class of 1963.

He was employed with the Department of Transportation for 33 years, retiring 12 years ago, as a highway maintenance supervisor.

On April 7, 1979, he married Deborah Richardson in Saco.

Richard was a carver and also was interested in antiques. He enjoyed restoring his 1968 Mustang, a project his sons will complete in his memory. Most of all, he loved his role as grandfather.

He is survived by: his wife of 35 years, Deborah Johnson of Saco; four sons, Richard R. Johnson Jr. of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Jeffrey S. Johnson and his wife Alessandra of Clearwater, Florida, Joseph S. Johnson Sr. and his wife Sarah and Michael J. Johnson and his wife Melanie, all of Saco; one daughter, Lisa Dadiego of Kingston, New Hampshire; one brother, Robert Johnson of Saco; one sister, Pauline Arundel of Biddeford; eight grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 4, 2014 at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford. A funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Saco. To share condolences online, visit www.hopememorial.com.
