KEENE, N.H. — A New Hampshire college president says 170 students have been disciplined over violent disturbances at parties that coincided with a pumpkin festival two months ago.
Keene State College President Anne Huot says the sanctions brought against students range from college probation to expulsion. Huot made the comment in a statement Monday.
On Tuesday, city officials and Keene Pumpkin Festival organizers held a public meeting on the event’s future.
Nonprofit groups that use the festival for fundraisers say it would be a major loss if it is canceled. Meanwhile, residents who had to deal with the Oct. 18-19 mayhem, which led to property damage and injuries, say it’s time for the tradition to end.
WMUR-TV reports that students asked residents not to judge everyone based on the actions of a few.
