OLD ORCHARD BEACH — The Old Orchard Beach girls basketball squad opened up the 2014-15 season with a visit from Traip Academy on Friday night and the Seagulls came away with a 46-29 victory.

The Seagulls put the game away early on as they jumped out to a 15-0 lead to start the contest and led 33-11 at the break.

Abby Dubois led OOB with 11 points, while Bri Plante added eight points and Haley Plante finished with seven.

Traip was led by Codi Smith with seven points.

OOB will visit Sacopee Valley next Friday night.

In other local girls basketball action, Wells dropped a tough 50-47 decision to Cape Elizabeth and Scarborough rolled to a 53-19 win over Biddeford.

Boys basketball

Scarborough 74, Biddeford 46

BIDDEFORD — Biddeford couldn’t figure out Scarborough’s 1-3-1 zone defense as the Tigers dropped their home opener to the visiting Red Storm.

Patrick Pearl, who sat out most of the second quarter with foul trouble, still managed to score 17 points to lead Biddeford. Austin Dutremble added 10 points, while Alex Millett added five and Caleb Ball chipped in with four points in his first varsity game.

Scarborough was led by Milani Hicks with 28 points.

Biddeford will look to bounce back on Tuesday at Gorham.

In other local boys basketball games, Sanford fell by a 44-41 score to Westbrook; Cape Elizabeth topped Wells 59-48; Traip beat Old Orchard Beach by a 74-62 score and Portland rolled over Massabesic 72-38.
