New Beginnings

Dr. Kyra Chadbourne has opened a dental practice at 78 Leighton Road, Falmouth. The practice, Falmouth Dentistry, offers preventive, restorative, cosmetic and other dental care for adults and children. Chadbourne has practiced dentistry in Maine since 2009, and is a native of the state who graduated from Gorham High School and earned an undergraduate degree at Yale University. She received her doctorate degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo and completed her residency there.

Laongdao “Tak” Suppasettawat has opened a financial advisory business at her home in Cape Elizabeth. Suppasettawat, a certified financial planner, licensed investment adviser and certified public accountant, is president of TAK Advisory, LLC. Her firm, at 190 Two Lights Road, provides independent, fee-only financial planning and investment-management services to individuals and organizations. Previously, she served as an investment representative for Fidelity Investments and a financial advisor with Merrill Lynch.

New Hires, Promotions and Appointments

Rebecca L. Gagnon has been named administrator of Piper Shores, a nonprofit lifecare retirement community in Scarborough. As administrator, Gagnon will oversee the community’s assisted living and skilled nursing care facility. Gagnon is a licensed social worker who previously served as administrator of Genesis HealthCare’s River Ridge Center in Kennebunk. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from The University of New England.

BlueTarp Financial, a Portland-based professional credit management company serving the building supply industry, recently added seven new employees to its staff. They are: Jacqueline Garan, executive assistant/office manager; Denise Green, credit specialist; Deb Kraus, accounting manager; Chuck Laber-Smith, senior software engineer; Scott Sargent, customer service; Will Stuart, customer service; and Andy Winslow, software development manager.

Wei Po Huang has joined ecomaine as an accounting assistant. He is a recent graduate of the University of Southern Maine, where he was an accounting tutor, with a degree in accounting and business administration. Owned by 20 regional communities and based in Portland, ecomaine is a recycling and waste-to-energy business that serves 25 percent of the state’s population.

Friends of Casco Bay, a South Portland-based conservation organization, has hired Sara Biron as its database assistant. Among her duties, she will support the Friends’ water-quality monitoring by helping to track and summarize data collected by 75 volunteer scientists annually.

TD Bank has promoted Christopher L. Brassbridge to retail market manager, based in Portland, where he oversees 22 bank branches stretching from South Portland to Brunswick. Brassbridge has six years of combined experience in banking and insurance, and joined TD Bank in 2010. Most recently, he served as vice president/store manager in Portland. He holds an M.B.A. from Thomas College and an undergraduate degree from the University of Southern Maine.

Sheldon Perkins has joined Vreeland Marketing & Design, of Yarmouth, as a senior account executive. He previously operated his own marketing agency, and also served as a product developer at L.L. Bean. Perkins attended Southern New Hampshire University, and lives in North Yarmouth.

The Portland Harbor Hotel has hired Aaron Black as general manager of the property and its restaurant, Eve’s at the Garden. He brings more than a decade of luxury hotel leadership experience with him, most recently as general manager of Topnotch Resort and Spa in Stowe, Vermont. Previously, he was hotel manager of the Four Seasons Hotel in St. Louis. He earned an undergraduate degree in economics from the University of Prince Edward Island.

Grants

The federal Department of Agriculture in November awarded more than $20 million in grants to improve health care and education in rural areas across 34 states. Of the 65 grant recipients nationwide, two organizations were based in southern Maine. Home-Health Visiting Nurses of Southern Maine will receive $52,000 to provide health services to rural residents in Cumberland County. Portland-based Learning Works Inc. was awarded $53,000 to teach nearly 1,000 students in three rural high schools and to train more than 100 AmeriCorps volunteers.

KeyBank has contributed a $200,000 gift to Maine Medical Center, to fund construction of the KeyBank of Maine Family Waiting Room at the hospital’s Bramhall Campus in Portland. The new area for patients and families is expected to be completed in 2015. KeyBank has helped support MMC, the state’s largest medical center, since 1983.
