James Hannigan scored the go-ahead goal late in the second period and added an empty-netter as Cheverus beat Cape Elizabeth 5-2 in a boys’ hockey game Saturday at Portland Ice Arena.

Despite being outshot 22-4 in the first period, Cape (2-1) grabbed a 1-0 lead on a goal by Curtis Guimond.

James Kane tied it in the second period before Hannigan made it 2-1. Cheverus (3-0) extended its lead to 4-1 in the third period when Matt O’Leary and Quinton Farr scored in a span of 32 seconds.

Tom Gleason tallied Cape’s final goal with 1:47 remaining. Ross LeBlond made 47 saves for the Capers.

FALMOUTH 11, PORTLAND/DEERING 0: Isac Nordstrom had a pair goals and three assists, and seven others scored for the Yachtsmen (2-0) in a win over the Bulldogs (1-2) at Portland Ice Arena.

Reese Armitage and Evan Bazinet also had two goals apiece.

SCARBOROUGH 3, LAWRENCE/SKOWHEGAN 1: Jack Callahan and Sean McDonald scored power-play goals in the second period as the Red Storm (2-1) beat the Bulldogs (0-2) in Winslow.

Braeden Kane assisted on the go-ahead goal and added a goal of his own with 4:35 remaining.

ST. DOM’S 4, BIDDEFORD 3: Austin Roy’s power-play goal just five seconds into overtime gave the Saints (2-0) a win over the Tigers (0-1) in Auburn.

Biddeford grabbed a 3-2 lead on second-period goals by Logan Magnant, Joe Anders and Colin Lavigne, but Mitch Lorenz tied it on a power play with about four minutes remaining in regulation.

SOUTH PORTLAND/FREEPORT/WAYNFLETE 5, MASSABESIC/BONNY EAGLE/OOB 3: Kyle Halvorsen had two goals and two assists as the Red Riots (2-1) beat the Mustangs (0-2) at Gorham.

South Portland trailed 2-1 after one period but took the lead in the second period on goals by Halvorsen and Andrew Whipple, who finished with two goals and an assist.

Travis Marsh, Kyle Whitman and Cameron Roy scored for the Mustangs.

POLAND/GRAY-NG/OAK HILL 5, MARSHWOOD/TRAIP 4: Ethan Cailler’s unassisted goal 6:01 into overtime gave the 26ers (1-1) a win over the Hawks (0-2) in Auburn.

Marshwood got goals from Nick Barrett, Troy Stevens and Joe Spinney in a span of 2:13 late in regulation to grab a 4-3 lead, but Jason Cote tied it just 19 seconds after Spinney’s goal – his second of the game.

Bailey Drouin, Ryan Lavoie and Isaiah Dubois also scored for the 26ers.

GORHAM 4, NOBLE/WELLS 1: Travis Mansir broke a 1-1 tie with one second left in the first period and added an insurance goal in the third period as the Rams (2-0) beat the Knights (1-2) at Rochester, New Hampshire.

Dean Pratt scored for Noble/Wells.

GREELY 3, LEAVITT 0: Nathan Gervais had a goal and an assist and Kyle Kramlich made 22 saves as the Rangers (1-1) shut out the Hornets (0-2) in Falmouth.

Andrew Ray and Ryan Megathlin also scored. Nick Caputo contributed two assists.

BRUNSWICK 7, YORK 4: Jacob McGowan scored four goals and Jared Parent had two goals and two assists for the Dragons (2-0) in a win over the Wildcats (0-2) at Brunswick.

York’s Derek Neal notched a hat trick and assisted on the Wildcats’ other goal.

CAMDEN HILLS 3, PRESQUE ISLE 0: Jonah Cameron scored a pair of goals and the Windjammers (3-0) shut out the Wildcats (0-1) at Presque Isle.

James Annis also scored, and Simon Lydon contributed a pair of assists. Zach Hand made 22 saves to record the shutout.

GIRLS’ HOCKEY

CAPE/WAYNFLETE/SOUTH PORTLAND 3, CHEVERUS 0: Kathryn Clark and Hannah Bosworth scored in the second period and Julia Ginder added a third-period goal as the Capers (3-3) shut out the Stags (2-4) at Portland Ice Arena.

YORK 3, BRUNSWICK 1: Eleanor Cifrino scored the go-ahead goal in the third period as the Wildcats (3-1) edged the Dragons (0-6) at Brunswick.

Emma Ford and Kara Kelly also scored for York. Tessa Cassidy gave Brunswick a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal in the second period and Jordan Van Savage made 40 saves for the Dragons.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

WISCASSET 70, CARRABEC 45: Kevin Lynch scored 17 points and added eight rebounds as the Wolverines (2-2) defeated the Cobras (0-4) at North Anson.

SEACOAST CHRISTIAN 55, BUCKFIELD 28: Isaac LaCroix and Sky Archer each scored 16 points as the Guardians (2-1) defeated the Bucks (0-2) at South Berwick.

VALLEY 80, VINALHAVEN 45: Cody Laweryson scored 16 points to lead the Cavaliers (3-0) over the Vikings (0-4) in Bingham.

Cody Hamilton led Vinalhaven with 15 points.

RANGELEY 72, NORTH HAVEN 56: Timmy White scored 21 points for the Lakers (2-1) in a win over the Hawks (0-4) at North Haven.

CARRABEC 48, WISCASSET 20: The Cobras (1-2) built a 29-10 halftime lead and cruised past the Wolverines (1-2) at North Anson.

Mickayla Willette paced Carrabec with 20 points and 11 rebounds, and Emma Pluntke had 12 points.

RANGELEY 70, NORTH HAVEN 4: The Lakers (3-0) led 28-0 after one quarter and cruised to the win at North Haven (0-4).

Seve Deery-DeRaps scored 19 points, and Celia Philbrick, Natasha Haley and Maddison Egan contributed eight apiece.

HALL-DALE 76, MT. ABRAM 23: Dani Sweet scored 22 points to lead the Bulldogs (2-1) over the Roadrunners (0-2) in Farmingdale.

MONMOUTH ACADEMY 44, MOUNTAIN VALLEY 23: The Mustangs (3-0) jumped out to a 29-12 halftime lead on the way to a win over the Falcons (1-1) at Monmouth.

Tia Day scored 13 points for Monmouth. Liza White tossed in 16 points for Mountain Valley.
