From the Journal Tribune: “Selectmen have scheduled a Special Town Meeting for a proposed contract zone for a business park in West Kennebunk. The board voted 5-0 to set a Special Town Meeting at 6 p.m. January 18 at Town Hall.”

From the Biddeford-Saco Journal: “Thornton Academy has been accredited as an independent secondary school by the New England Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and approved for a continued membership of 10 years in the association, it was announced today. Robert L. Bowie, headmaster of the academy, in making the announcement said that he had been notified of the accreditation by Francis O. Grubbs, chairman of the Commission on Independent Secondary Schools.”

100 years ago

From the Biddeford Daily Journal: “It will be open house at the Biddeford high school, Wednesday evening, December 30, the faculty to give an at home on that evening to all students of the school, members of the Alumni association and their friends, when there will be a reception from 8 to 9 o’clock, after which there will be dancing. The entire affair is planned to be delightfully informal, one of those home comings when everyone welcomes everyone else.”
