SACO — At just before 8:30 a.m. this morning, Thornton Academy sent an email and automated voice message to parents of students stating that the school was under lock down in response to a possible threat.

The email stated, “Students are safely in their classrooms with teachers. Saco Police are on campus and are investigating.”

The email asked parents not to enter the school grounds.

A second statement was sent by the school to parents saying that Thornton Academy was in lock down, and the Saco Police Department was on site. Police secured the campus in response to a threat received by phone, according to the statement. All students were released early, at 9:15 a.m., in the interest of safety, the school stated.
