Portland High is looking to fill head coaching positions for baseball and softball, confirmed Athletic Director Rob O’Leary.

Veteran baseball coach Tony DiBiase resigned two weeks ago after four seasons. Softball coach Kelly Libby was not rehired.

“We’re going in a different direction,” O’Leary said of the softball position.

DiBiase was hired in October 2010, replacing Mike McCullum, who became Portland’s athletic director. DiBiase previously coached for 14 seasons at South Portland.

Portland had a record of 10-7 last season and lost to Windham in the Western Class A quarterfinals.

DiBiase is the Scarborough boys’ basketball coach. He was the South Portland boys’ basketball coach for 17 years and has also coached basketball at Machias, Noble, Gorham and Portland.

He was a baseball standout at the University of Maine in the mid-1970s and a three-sport athlete at Westbrook High.

O’Leary said the application period for the baseball position closes next Friday. The application period for softball closes on Jan. 1.
