A state prisoner serving two life sentences for murder died Monday at the Maine State Prison in Warren.

Edward C. Robinson Jr., 77, was sentenced in 1990 to two life sentences for the shooting deaths of Robert Blanchard and Patricia Maguire at a Bangor mobile home park in 1988.

The Department of Corrections announced Robinson’s death Tuesday morning but did not provide any details. The Maine State Police and the Office of the State Medical Examiner were both notified as required by state policy.

In 2011, Robinson was transferred to a nursing home, a move that drew criticism from Blanchard’s son Ron Blanchard. He argued that Robinson was given two life sentences and should die in prison for killing Ron Blanchard’s father and his mother-in-law. After his criticism, Robinson was returned to Maine State Prison though it was not clear why.

Robinson died at the prison.
