This letter is in response to the Dec. 20 article titled “Payson heirs fighting Cumberland’s beach plan.”

So, as I see it, the Payson family graciously accepted payment from the town for the 25 acres of prime woodland and Casco Bay waterfront (I bet they liked that), and then they turned around and hired attorneys to keep the generous citizens of Cumberland off the waterfront.

How incredibly selfish the Payson heirs are. It’s my hope, in this season of caring and sharing, that the Payson family stops this greedy, time-wasting lawsuit and moves on with their lives.

Let the rightful new owners, the children and families of Cumberland, enjoy the waterfront. They’ve paid for it.
