In October, Key Clubbers participated in the annual Trick or Treat for UNICEF fundraiser. UNICEF and Key Club International joined together to form the Eliminate Project. This project was developed to help prevent and eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus by vaccinating mothers.

As of Nov. 30, Kiwanis-Family Service Leadership Programs have raised $3.3 million in total funds. Key Clubs have contributed $103,223. Of the total, Sanford High School Key Club raised $450.41 through trick or treating this year.

On Nov. 22, the SHS Key Club volunteered at the Carl J. Lamb Craft Fair. Ten key club members manned the “bounce house” for children while their parents browsed through the many vendors and displays. The Craft Fair had lots of items to chose from and activities for both children and adults to enjoy. The fair raises money for Carl J. Lamb School projects as well as each of the individual sellers. Santa Claus and his elves were also on hand for photos.

The SHS Key Club helped spread holiday cheer on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at the Children’s Holiday Party sponsored by the Sanford Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs. Key clubbers helped set up and decorate the event, which provides children with hats, boots, and mittens to help keep them warm during these cold winter months.

On Thursday, Dec. 11, the Key Club was presented with a plaque of recognition from the Alzheimer’s Association. For years, Sanford Key Club has supported and helped at the Alzheimer’s Walk each fall, this walk raises money and awareness for Alzheimer’s and all those affected by it.

Key Club is a branch organization of Kiwanis International that began more than 80 years ago to help teens reach out to their communities and get involved with their schools and towns. There are currently more than 200,000 members of Key Club International in more than 30 countries around the world.

Sanford High School Key Club members are looking forward to a new year of growing membership and more opportunities to help vital organizations within the community. Members would like to thank all of those who provided support by attending these events, through their generous donation of funds and needed items.
