SANFORD — A 62-year-old Sanford man sustained a possible broken leg when he was struck by a car crossing Main Street on Christmas Eve.

Robert Harrington entered the northbound lane of Main Street near the intersection with Maple Street about 6 p.m. He was struck by a car driven by Kathy Cornish, 64, also of Sanford.

According to Sanford Police, Cornish attempted to avoid hitting the man, but struck him with the corner of her vehicle. Weather conditions that evening ”“ it was raining ”“ were considered a contributing factor in the crash, said Deputy Police Chief Tim Strout. There is no crosswalk in that immediate area.

Harrington was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland. There is no word on his current condition.

No charges were filed.
