Westbrook police have released video footage in an effort to find a man who flashed a knife before robbing a convenience store on Spring Street on New Year’s Eve.

A statement from police said that a man of medium build and wearing a green-hooded coat and a scarf over his face entered Art’s Variety at about 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The surveillance video shows the man demanding cash from the register. When the cashier, who is also the owner, hesitates, the man flashes a knife, before taking cash from the register.

Police said the man fled on foot with an undetermined amount of money. A K-9 team tracked the suspect for a short distance before losing his scent, police said.

On Thursday afternoon, police released audio and video clips of the robbery in hopes of catching the man.

Anyone with information about the robbery should contact Det. Sgt. John Desjardins at 854-0644, ext. 2414, or the department’s anonymous crime tip line at 591-8117.
