Portland took the lead for good when Sydney Fredrick made a layup off a Gabby Wagabaza pass, breaking a tie in the final minute of a 49-46 victory against Sanford in an SMAA schoolgirl basketball game at the Portland Expo.

Fredrick’s basket broke a 43-43 tie for the Bulldogs (5-3).

Kate Johnson scored 13 points, and Fredrick and Taylor Sargent added 10 apiece for the Bulldogs, who led 38-25 going into the fourth quarter.

Sanford (1-7), which was led by Hannah Howes with 13 points, opened the fourth quarter with a 16-3 run to make it 41-41.

CHEVERUS 67, NOBLE 32: The Stags (4-4) opened a 41-14 first-half lead and rolled past the Knights (0-8) at North Berwick.

Brooke Dawson has three 3-pointers and finished with 18 points for Cheverus. Diedre Sanborn scored 13 and Anne Veroneau 12.

Melodie Bailey led Noble with seven points.

GORHAM 52, BONNY EAGLE 39: Emily Esposito scored nine of her game-high 15 points in the third quarter as the Rams (7-1) pulled away from the Scots (3-5) at Standish.

Kaylea Lundin scored nine points and Molly Merrifield added eight for Gorham.

Elizabeth Bushey, Cassidy Emery and Mia Farrante each scored six points for Bonny Eagle.

DIRIGO 44, CARRABEC 43: Kelsey Hutchins scored 20 points to help Dirigo (6-0) rally past the Cobras (3-4) at North Anson.

Emma Pluntke had 14 points for Carrabec, which led 31-15 at halftime.

LINCOLN ACADEMY 59, GARDINER 53: Gabrielle Wajer scored 21 points to lift Lincoln Academy (7-2) over the Tigers (4-5) at Newcastle.

The Eagles trailed 28-25 at halftime, then outscored Gardiner 34-25 in the second half. Logan Granholm and Morgan Carver each contributed 13 points for Gardiner.

BOOTHBAY REGION 50, ST. DOMINIC 29: Page Brown scored 14 points and Morgan Crocker added 13 to lead the Seahawks (8-0) past the Saints (1-6) at Boothbay Harbor.

The Seahawks opened with a 13-3 run and extended their lead to 33-8 at halftime.

Faith Grady finished with a game-high 20 points for St. Dom’s.

THORNTON ACADEMY 44, SCARBOROUGH 29: Ashley Howe scored 19 points to help the Trojans (8-0) pull away from the Red Storm (4-4) at Scarborough.

Kaitlyn McCrum added eight points for Thornton, which led 18-14 at halftime and 30-21 going to the fourth quarter.

Ashley Briggs led Scarborough with 19 points.

MEDOMAK VALLEY 43, WINSLOW 35: Hannah Marks scored 20 points, including three 3-pointers, to help Medomak Valley (6-3) beat the Black Raiders (5-3) at Waldoboro.

Devin Fitzgibbons and Heather Kervin added 11 points each for Winslow.

LEAVITT 43, ERSKINE ACADEMY 25: Katie Gamage had four points and six rebounds for the Eagles (1-7) in a loss to the Hornets (3-6) at Turner.

WESTBROOK 56, WINDHAM 49: Alisha Aube made six 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 27 points to lift the Blue Blazes (5-3) over the Eagles (2-6) at Westbrook.

Westbrook led 23-17 at halftime and held on behind 18 second-half points from Aube.

Danasia Fennie added 12 points for the Blue Blazes.

Macy Mannette scored 18 points on six 3-pointers for Windham, and Sadie Nelson added 17 points, including three 3-pointers.

MAINE CENTRAL INSTITUTE 50, BELFAST 29: Ashley Alton made three 3-pointers en route to a game-high 17 points to lead the Huskies (3-6) over Belfast (0-8) at Pittsfield.

EDWARD LITTLE/LEAVITT/POLAND 1, YARMOUTH/FREEPORT/GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 0: Danica Nadeau scored at 11:05 of the second period as the Red Eddies (9-1) edged the Clippers (5-5) at Yarmouth.

Savannah Shaw made 15 saves for the shutout. Hannah Williams stopped 12 shots for Yarmouth/Freeport/Gray-New Gloucester.
