SACO — The Maine Water Company has donated $1,000 each to the Stone Soup Pantry in Biddeford, Friends of Community Action Food Pantry in Biddeford, the Saco Food Pantry, the Old Orchard Beach Community Food Pantry and the Scarborough Food Pantry.

Judy Wallingford, president of Maine Water, said she appreciates all that the local food pantries do for the community, and that support for these organizations needs to be year-round.

“Although national economic numbers imply an improved economy, at the street level here in Maine the pinch is still on,” said Wallingford. “All you have to do is visit one of our local pantries, talk to the great volunteers there, and you’ll understand instantly how badly local children and families need this helping hand.”

Maine Water serves 32,000 customers, or a population of 100,000, in more than 20 communities throughout the state of Maine.
