South Portland police found and charged a 36-year-old man who was wanted on 15 arrest warrants issued by nine law enforcement agencies, mostly for theft, burglary and passing bad checks.

Officers Ben Macisso and Scott Corbett tracked down Michael Allan Thurston at 1 p.m. Thursday in a vacant third-floor apartment in the 800 block of Broadway and arrested him without incident, police said.

South Portland police were assisted by members of the Maine Violent Offender Task Force, which was operating in the area on an unrelated matter.

The warrants were from Gorham, Biddeford, Westbrook, Windham, Yarmouth and Portland police, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, Maine State Police and State Probation and Parole.

Thurston was being held in the Cumberland County Jail without bail for allegedly violating his conditions of probation.
