LEWISTON – A Maine teenager will be committed to a juvenile detention facility until he turns 17 after admitting to aggravated criminal mischief stemming from a 2013 fire.

The Sun Journal reported that the 14-year-old boy from Lewiston will be committed to Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland. He was facing felony arson charges before pleading to the mischief charge. All arson charges and other unrelated, less serious charges will be dismissed.

The plea deal closes out the prosecution of two men and two boys who were charged in a series of three unrelated fires over a one-week span in 2013 in Lewiston.

The fires displaced nearly 200 low-income residents and destroyed nine apartment buildings. The 14-year-old boy’s lawyer says the boy and his family apologize for his actions.
