Authorities say a couple from Bridgton died Wednesday after a head-on crash on Route 302 in Casco between State Park Road and Tenney Hill Road. The two-car crash was reported just before 2 p.m.

A 2014 Chevrolet Equinox driven east by Allen Estes, 66, of Standish collided head-on with a 2000 Dodge Caravan driven west by Carol Honaberger, 70, of Bridgton. Honaberger was killed in the crash. Her husband, Dale Honaberger, 81, who was a passenger, died from his injuries Wednesday night at Maine Medical Center in Portland, said the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

Estes suffered broken bones and other injuries, and was treated and released at the scene of the crash.

The Honabergers’ therapy dog, a golden retriever, also was injured in the crash and was taken by an animal control officer for emergency treatment of broken legs, the sheriff’s office said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
