NEWTON, Mass. — Morgan Cahill reached 1,000 career points Monday as St. Joseph’s College of Maine (10-3, 3-0) cruised to a 78-53 win over Mt. Ida (6-11, 0-3) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference women’s basketball game.

Cahill passed the 1,000 mark on a layup with 13:51 left in the second half and finished with a team-high 15 points. She is just the sixth player in team history to reach the 1,000-point plateau during her junior season.

Sarah Assante added 11 points for the Monks, who never trailed and had 12 different players score.

ST. JOSEPH’S 75, MT. IDA 64: Steve Simonds scored a career-high 40 points and also had 11 rebounds and seven assists to lift the Monks (7-7, 5-3) to a Great Northeast Athletic Conference win over the Mustangs (2-13, 1-8) at Newton, Massachusetts.

Simonds, whose his previous career high was 35 points, scored the final 10 points of the game for the Monks, who closed out the game with an 8-0 run.

Jake Downing added 15 points for the Monks, who held Mt. Ida scoreless for the final 2:56 of the game.
