Avesta Housing has awarded the 2014 Mike Yandell Award for extraordinary work in the field of affordable housing to Jess Maurer, executive director of the Maine Association of Area Agencies on Aging. Maurer was recognized for his dedication to the needs of Maine’s older adults, including housing. Avesta, based in Portland, is northern New England’s largest nonprofit developer of affordable housing.

New Hires, Promotions and Appointments

South Portland Mayor Linda Cohen has joined Bangor Savings Bank as manager of its South Portland/Mill Creek branch. Cohen has held numerous business and civic leadership roles, including director of development at LearningWorks in Portland, loan officer for PMAC Lending, an agent for The Maine Real Estate Network and city clerk in both South Portland and Portland. She also currently serves as president of the South Portland/Cape Elizabeth Community Chamber of Commerce, and is on the executive board of the Maine Municipal Association.

Legacy Properties, a Maine luxury real estate company affiliated with Sotheby’s International Realty, has hired Pete Molloy as vice president. Molloy, a graduate of Cheverus High School and Stonehill College, has worked in real estate sales since 2002. He will be based in the firm’s Portland office.

Nicole Savage has rejoined Atlantic Regional Federal Credit Union as a home loan specialist. She brings over 15 years of lending experience to the credit union, including previous service there handling consumer, commercial and mortgage lending. A Mid-Coast resident, she will serve ARFCU members there and in southern Maine.

Dr. Deirdre Heersink has joined the Topsham Family Practice of Mid Coast Medical Group and the medical staff of Mid Coast Hospital. Heersink holds a medical degree from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. She is board-certified in family medicine and has completed training in osteopathic manipulation. Most recently she worked as a hospitalist at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta.

Portland-based law firm Jensen Baird Gardner & Henry recently named Kathleen T. Konkoly and Mark A. Bower as directors. Konkoly, of Scarborough, is a member of the firm’s Business Services Practice Group. She began her legal career as an officer in the U.S. Navy JAG Corps. Bower, of Portland, works in the firm’s Government Services Practice Group. He formerly clerked for U.S. District Court Judge John Woodcock.

Mike Vaillancourt, an attorney and shareholder with the South Portland law firm of Ainsworth, Thelin & Raftice, was recently elected president of the Cumberland County Bar Association. The association, with over 100 members, is one of the oldest such organizations in the United States.

KeyBank recently named Jamie St. Clair as retail leader for the Maine coastal area, responsible for sales, service and financial direction of 11 branches in Cumberland, Knox, Lincoln and Sagadahoc counties. St. Clair has been with Key for almost 10 years, including the past seven as retail leader in the Bangor area.

Angela Duran and Tiffany Richards have joined Clark Insurance as account managers within the firm’s Personal Insurance Department. Each brings roughly a decade of experience to Clark, an independent insurance agency with offices in Portland and three other southern Maine locations.

Grants

The Maine Office of Tourism recently awarded grants totaling more than $70,000 to is eight marketing projects designed to increase visitor business in Maine. They include Flavors of Freeport, a Feb. 20 event celebrating the town’s fine dining. The event received a $5,000 grant. The Maine Art Museum Trail, a joint promotion of eight institutions including the Portland and Bowdoin College art museums, received over $8,500.
