BREWER — Both the Orange and black squads of the Brunswick High School girls jayvee team had no problem coming out on top against Brewer on Monday.

The Black team was led by MacKenzie Burrows’ dominant style of play as her team went on to capture the 51-41 victory. After one quarter of play the score was tied at 12 apiece, but the Dragons were able to open up a six-point advantage heading into the half. However Burrows was able to score 10 of her game-high 13 points in the final quarter to sustain the lead. She also grabbed 12 boards to lead the defensive effort.

Haile Cummings was also noted for strong play on defense, as well as scoring six points. Brooke Barter added 11 points and recorded six steals for the Dragons.

For the Orange team, the Dragons took hold of a commanding 16-5 lead in the first quarter, while piling it on the rest of the game to walk away with a 56-21 victory. Brunswick’s defense was anchored by the strong play of Ketura Stinson. She had 14 rebounds as well as five blocked shots and 10 points on offense.

Margaret Dickinson, Maddie Brescia and Allie Eck were noted as defensive standouts for Brunswick. Heather Kinee dished out eight assists to lead the offensive effort while Sabrina Armstrong scored a game-high 11 points, including three 3-pointers. Eck added 10 points, while Barter contributed with eight points and five assists.
