YARMOUTH — Judith M. Bohrmann, 79, of Yarmouth, died Jan. 8 at her home, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, on Nov. 5, 1935, and lived in Short Hills, New Jersey, until her marriage to husband Bruce in 1956.

The couple relocated with four children to New England in 1968, finally settling in Yarmouth, the family home for the past 45 years. A fifth child, Andrew, was born in 1969.

Bohrmann attended The Beard School in West Orange, New Jersey, and earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Skidmore College. She went on to work in the psychiatric department of Maine Medical Center for 35 years, with seven years as head nurse.

She is remembered for singing at Yarmouth’s First Parish Congregational Church, particularly in the Christmas Eve service. She was known as a wise confidant to her many friends, and a kind of “mother-surrogate” to her sons’ and grandsons’ soccer and lacrosse teammates, who adopted the Bohrmann home as their unofficial headquarters.

Bohrmann is survived by her husband, Bruce; her five children, Bucky, Erich, Brady and wife Martha (Sawyer), Victoria and husband, Joel Hughes, and Andrew; and six grandchildren, Benjamin, of Missoula, Montana, Ford, of New York City, Alden and Maggie, of Falmouth, and Ian and Owen, of Yarmouth.

Friends and guests are invited to remember Bohrmann on Saturday, Jan. 24, from 1-4 p.m., at the Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the charity of one’s choice.
