PORTLAND (AP) — The police chief in a small Maine town has pleaded not guilty to a charge of drunken driving.

Police say Michael Madden of Harrison was operating under the influence when he was pulled over in Naples in November.

Madden, the police chief in the Oxford County town of Paris, entered his not guilty plea in Bridgton District Court on Tuesday during his arraignment.

Court officials say Madden’s case was transferred to a Portland court. Officials there say he has not been assigned a new court date.

Police say Madden was driving his personal vehicle and did not have any passengers. They also said at the time that he was cooperative during the stop.
