GORHAM — Sam Guimond scored the go-ahead goal 4:25 into the third period and the University of Southern Maine overcame a two-goal deficit to beat St. Michael’s 3-2 in an ECAC East men’s hockey game Friday night.

Daniel Mattsson assisted on all three goals for the Huskies (4-12, 2-9). St. Michael’s (6-9-2, 4-6-1) led 2-0 before Chad O’Brien got USM on the board with 2:30 left in the first period. Brett Norman tied it with 3:34 remaining in the second.

Kyle Shapiro made 24 saves to earn the win.

BOWDOIN 2, MIDDLEBURY 2: Jason Nawrocki scored the equalizer with 1:22 left in regulation as Bowdoin (9-4-3, 4-4-3 NESCAC) secured a tie against the Panthers (6-6-3, 3-3-3) at Middlebury, Vermont.

Bowdoin took the lead just 15 seconds into the game when Ryan Collier scored on assists from Connor Quinn and John McGinnis. Middlebury tied it two minutes later and took a 2-1 lead 1:46 into the third period, but the Polar Bears tied it after pulling goalie Max Fenkell for an extra attacker.

Fenkell finished with 34 saves.

WILLIAMS 4, COLBY 2: George Hunkele scored twice for the Ephs (10-3-2, 6-2-1 NESCAC), who scored a pair of third-period goals to pull away from the Mules (5-9-2, 2-7-2) at Williamstown, Massachusetts.

After falling behind 1-0 in the first period, Colby took a 2-1 lead on Devin Albert’s 11th and 12th goals of the season.

Sam Parker made 33 saves for the Mules, who were outshot 37-15.

NORWICH 6, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 1: William Pelletier had four assists for the Cadets (15-2-1, 11-0 ECAC East) in a win over the Nor’easters (6-11-1, 4-7-1) at the Harold Alfond Forum in Biddeford.

UNE fell behind 3-0 before Trevor Fleurent scored a power-play goal on assists from Zeth Zielinski and Jared Melman with 1:24 left in the first period.

Colby Drost made 33 saves for the Nor’easters.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

MIDDLEBURY 4, BOWDOIN 2: Emily Fluke scored one goal and assisted on two others as the Panthers (9-2-3, 6-1-2 NESCAC) beat the Polar Bears (8-4-3, 4-2-1) in Brunswick.

Rachel Kennedy scored both Bowdoin goals.

WILLIAMS 3, COLBY 1: Michaela Levine scored twice, including an empty-netter, as the Ephs (7-6-1, 4-2-1 NESCAC) beat the Mules (8-8, 1-8) in Waterville.

Katie McLaughlin scored her fifth goal of the year for Colby to cut the deficit to 2-1 with 9:53 left.

Colby goalie Jess Thulin made 21 saves.

HOLY CROSS 5, SOUTHERN MAINE 1: The Crusaders (11-4-1, 7-1 ECAC East) scored four straight goals to pull away from the Huskies (4-11-1, 2-6-1) in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Katie Couture scored in the second period and Liz Bergstrom finished with 34 saves for the Huskies.

NICHOLS 3, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 1: Grace Murphy scored the go-ahead goal in the second period and also had two assists for the Bison (5-10, 2-6 ECAC East) in a win over the Nor’easters (4-10-3, 1-7-1) at Dudley, Massachusetts.

UNE took a 1-0 lead on Mary Wirth’s power-play goal in the opening period.

Sydney Helmbrecht finished with 27 saves for UNE.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

(16) VCU 63, ST. LOUIS 61: Treveon Graham drove the length of the court for a tiebreaking layup with 0.9 seconds left, giving the Rams (16-3, 6-0 Atlantic 10) a win over the Billikens (9-10, 1-5) at St. Louis.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

(13) ARIZONA STATE 70, OREGON STATE 58: Katie Hempen scored 11 points and the Sun Devils (18-1, 7-0 Pac-12) won at home to extend their winning streak to 14 games.
