I chuckled when I read about the two Portland hotels’ complaints about noise levels coming from Old Port bar patrons (“Portland hotels’ plea on Old Port bar scene: Do not disturb,” Jan. 20).

As the article mentioned, the two hotels were built – recently – smack dab in the “epicenter of Portland’s … lively nightclub scene.” I ask: Who in their right mind would place a hotel at the corner of Fore and Union?

The hotels’ whining reminds me of urbanites who move to “the country” and complain about the smell of manure being spread on their neighbor’s hayfield.
